What is Higher Level Skills?

The Higher Level Skills program is a Queensland Government initiative which provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to access one subsidised training place in selected certificate IV and above qualifications, or priority skill sets.

The aim is to assist individuals to gain the higher level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in priority industries or to transition to university. Employers may also be able to access training to address workforce development needs.

What Courses are Available under Higher Level Skills?

HANMAC has been approved to offer the following qualifications under the Higher Level Skills program:

  • CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services.
  • CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support.
  • CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability.
  • CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services.

Am I eligible for Higher Level Skills?

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills program a participant must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent Resident or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency who has a permanent Queensland address
  • Not have completed or hold a certificate IV or higher qualification in any field, not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training.
  • Not be currently enrolled in, or studying towards the completion of a Certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • No longer be at school
  • Be over the age of 15

Some qualifications offered under Higher Level Skills require students to be working in industry as a prerequisite for accessing funding. How is training delivered?

HANMACs courses are offered through face to face training, external study and flexible training methods. Face to face training is conducted at HANMACs offices located in Kirwan, Townsville. External studies may include minimal class time.

Face to face, external and flexible students will be required to complete the prescribed vocational / work placement element of their course.

How does HANMAC support its students?

HANMAC provides email and phone support to all enrolled students. Face to face support meetings can be arranged through HANMACs office. Face to face support meetings are conducted at our Kirwan office.

Do I have to pay fees?

Under the Higher Level Skills program, the enrolled student is required to pay a student contribution fee as part of their enrollment. For further information on HANMACs fees and charges visit the fees section of the website or contact HANMAC.
