This qualification focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of leisure and health activities and programs for clients in residential facilities, community agencies and day centres, and the completion of specialised tasks and functions relating to leisure and health programs.

To successfully complete this qualification students must complete the 17 units of competency:

Core

  • CHCCOM002 Use communication to build relationships.
  • CHCDIV001  Work with diverse people.
  • CHCLAH001  Work effectively in the leisure and health industries.
  • CHCLAH002 Contribute to leisure and health planning.
  • CHCLAH003 Participate in the planning, implementation and monitoring of individual leisure and health programs.
  • CHCLAH004  Participate in planning leisure and health programs for clients with complex needs.
  • CHCLAH005 Incorporate lifespan development and sociological concepts into leisure and health programming.
  • CHCPRP003 Reflect and improve on own professional practice.
  • HLTAAP002 Confirm physical health status.
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.

Elective

  • CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people.
  • CHCAGE005 Provide support for people living with dementia.
  • CHCCCS015  Provide individualised support.
  • CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern.
  • CHCCCS023 Support independence and wellbeing.
  • CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families.

Work placement

Students must complete a mandatory 120 hours of  work placement.

Course requirements and recommendations

Requirements:

Students must hold or be able to apply for:

  • National police check (must cover working with vulnerable people)

Students must be able to:

  • meet the minimum level of English comprehension and communication required to complete assessment in English and work effectively in industry.
  • complete manual tasks including bending, pushing, pulling, lifting.

Highly recommended

It is highly recommended that students have the following:

  • Current influenza vaccination
  • COVID-19 vaccination

Full fee – $3332

Higher Level Skills co-contribution fee – $425 non concessional / $340 concessional

National police check (if completed by HANMAC) $47.15

Student polo shirt – $38 per shirt
